SOLO ADDS COMPOSTABLE COLD CUP TO BARE(TM) BY SOLO(R) LINE
Wednesday 24. June 2009 - Restaurants and foodservice operators who are looking for an environmentally preferable way to serve cold beverages now have a new option. Solo Cup Company has added compostable treated paper cold cups to its popular Bare by Solo line of ecoforward single-use hot and cold cups. Made with 50 percent renewable resource materials, the treated paper cold cups, which are lined with wax, are the latest extension to the Bare by Solo line. The cups are available nationwide.
Bare by Solo is the industrys first full line of eco-forward single-use foodservice products for restaurants and consumers made with recycled, recyclable, compostable or renewable materials. In addition to treated paper cold cups, the Bare by Solo line includes products made with sugarcane, recycled plastic and other renewable or recycled materials.
“The treated paper cold cup gives restaurants and other foodservice operators a compostable alternative to plastic cups and standard poly-lined paper cups,” said Karin Wennerstrom, director of foodservice product category management at Solo. “At the same time, the wax coating provides a durable cup with all the quality and performance that our customers expect from Solo.”
According to Wennerstrom, Solo has offered the environmentally preferable treated cold cups for many years, and now is adding the product to its Bare by Solo line to highlight its environmental benefits. The cups are compostable in a commercial composting facility. When composted, the cups do not contribute to landfill waste. Commercial composting programs that accommodate single-use foodservice products vary by area and may not be available in your community. To determine the availability and policies of commercial composting facilities in your community, check with your local municipality.
