New Suprasetter Eases CtP Learning Curve for Florida Packaging House
Friday 05. June 2009 - Since Florida Packaging & Graphics installed a Heidelberg Suprasetter A105 with Prinect prepress workflow late last year, the company has been enjoying better and more consistent print quality, as well as a marked reduction in makeready times. "Were also saving money in terms of reduced paper for makereadies, film costs and the costs associated with film outsourcing," said John Long, president of the Pompano Beach, Fla.-based company.
“The Suprasetter definitely does what we expected it to do; still, we were pleasantly surprised by the extent to which we have been able to shrink our makeready times. Even at this early stage in our CtP implementation, were already at least 50 percent faster, and we expect to improve on that as we become more comfortable with the workflow.” The company relies on Heidelberg Saphira Chem-free aluminum plates for fast rollup and consistency. It also installed an HP plotter for proofing with Heidelberg Prinect color management software on board.
In business for more than 30 years, the family-owned paperboard packaging specialist manufactures boxes for foodstuffs, medical equipment, automobile parts, and health and beauty products, in addition to point-of-purchase and counter-top displays. It serves a loyal client base located along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard and throughout the Southwest and Caribbean. The company employs a staff of 18.
In moving to a computer-to-plate workflow, Florida Packaging & Graphics chose Heidelberg technology largely because “the overall value package was better,” Long said. Installation and implementation proceeded smoothly, and an invitation to visit Heidelbergs Print Media Demonstration Center in Kennesaw proved to be “a great learning experience.” In addition, he noted, Heidelberg training personnel were very good at easing the company into the CtP learning curve.
