Big Changes Unfold at Steward Printing
Tuesday 02. June 2009 - Steward Printing and Advertising in Dallas, Texas, replaced its 20x29" Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74 with a 23x29" Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74 5-color Perfector with coating unit last year, then followed up by adding a full-size 30x40" Stahl B30 folder (equipped with high-quality scoring attachment), cousin to the Stahl B20 small-format (20x33") folder already in use at Steward.
According to owner Kevin Steward, “The Speedmaster CD 74 bumped us up enough that we also needed a larger-format folder. Just as the new press has enabled us to enter the packaging area, the new folder means we now can offer our customers a variety of folding options we had previously outsourced, including a fast fold 16-page, 12-page landscape format, and 3-panel scoring. The quick and easy set up of the continuous feeder, right angle and delivery has increased our production time on all of the jobs that we have put on the folder. Having these capabilities in our own shop saves both time and money, in addition to giving us greater control over the finished product,” Steward said.
Other Heidelberg equipment in use at Stewart Printing includes a 115ED 45″ & 76 EM 30″ POLAR paper cutters and a Stitchmaster ST 90 6-pocket saddlestitcher with cover feeder. The commercial offset printer also uses various Heidelberg consumables with the new Speedmaster CD 74 press. The company serves a local clientele.
Established in 1983 and with 11 employees, Steward Printing has enjoyed a long relationship with Heidelberg. “Weve learned over time that you get what you pay for,” Steward says. “Not only is Heidelberg equipment durable and reliable, but the company has always provided us with terrific service. Heidelberg is definitely a staunch supporter of the small business printer.”
