Thursday 07. May 2009 - B1 printer Acorn Press is supplementing its pressroom line up, which already includes a ten-colour long perfector, with a new B2 press. The Swindon company will take delivery of a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75-6+L this month.

“We remain a B1 printer but have concluded that some work can be handled more efficiently on a B2 press.” says managing director Patrick Crouch. “The XL technology made it an easy decision to return to Heidelberg, The improved running speeds and faster make-readies allied to a changed shift pattern give us a significant increase in capacity. We will also achieve significantly better colour and quality control with Axis Control spectrophotometry. Heidelberg is an easy company to deal with.”

The configuration is specified with flexibility in mind which is important for a company handling work in runs of hundreds up to tens of thousands and across a comprehensive product range for a wide variety of companies nationwide. The press is F format giving it a larger 605 x 750mm format and with six colour units and a coater will handle almost anything thrown at it.

The 24/5 operation is supplemented with weekend overtime and with the productivity this press offers it is expected to make a significant difference to Acorn’s output. The company has also recently invested in upgraded digital printing, new CTP and colour proofing and the long term goal is to have all areas of production JDF linked, optimising efficiency in terms of communication, colour with quality control and speed of output.

“We are now able to offer print from digital up to long run B1 size, we have excellent kit, a depth of experience in every department and a reputation for giving good service,” says Mr Crouch.
