Consistency plays a major role in the long standing relationship between Fazer Confectionery, SCA Packaging and M-REAL
Monday 30. March 2009 - Consistency plays a major role in supporting the long-standing relationship between Fazer Confectionery, Finlands leading confectionery company, and M-real Consumer Packaging.
M-reals Kemiart Lite has now been used for over 10 years as the surface liner in Fazers 3 kg and 2.5 kg corrugated wholesaler packages, flexo printed by SCA Packaging. Today there are 11 different Fazer products packed in this type of package, and the use of coated Kemiart Lite results in consistently correct brand colours and a good-looking surface from one production run to another.
Fazer has three confectionery factories located in Finland, making chocolate products, sugar confectionery and chewing gum. It is a leading player in the Baltic region and has a portfolio of strong brands including Karl Fazer, Geisha, Dumle, Tutti Frutti, Pantteri, Marianne and Xylident.
“Packaging plays an important role in Fazers branding – it has to support the brand and brand strategy,” says Kati Randell, Packaging Development Manager of Fazer Confectionery. “Packaging has to communicate the values and essence of the brand. The design, shape, and feel of the material are all important, as well as the written and visual information about the products on the package.
“The Kemiart Lite wholesaler packages are designed to be used both as protection during transit and as shelf-ready packages. Retail readiness will have even more importance in the future, and we continue to make further developments in this field,” adds Kati. “Box strength and stability will therefore be of great importance to Fazer when choosing the type of packaging and material, especially when the boxes also serve as transport packages.”
SCA Packagings Tampere, Finland, plant has been supplying Fazer Confectionery with flexo post-printed packages since coated Kemiart Lite was first introduced. It has been active in co-operation with M-real Kemiart Liners in developing coated white top kraftliners and solutions for high-quality printing on corrugated board. “Our mutual aim was to create more value for our customers, who see the great benefit of premium printing quality in boosting sales, as most consumers make buying decisions at the shelf,” says Kari Ollila, Marketing Director of SCA Packaging.
“The quality consistency of Kemiart Lite results in good runnability that contributes to efficient and consistent converting at our plant. Fazer has always been demanding on quality issues during its long relationship with SCA. It is extremely important to maintain their exact brand colours in every single delivery we produce,” adds Kari Ollila. “Environmental issues also play an important role for both companies, resulting in the decision five years ago by SCA Packaging to use copperless inks only. We are still the only box supplier in Finland to use exclusively copper-free inks, providing our customers with a more environmentally acceptable solution.”
