Tieto has opened a new concept data centre in Russia, St Petersburg

Tuesday 03. February 2009 - Tieto's data centre in St Petersburg is aimed at serving better its Nordic customers who have operations in Russia. The centre will also meet the present and future interest of local customers. The first customers to utilize new services are the Nordic If P&C Insurance and its Russian daughter company Region.

The new data centre was opened at the beginning of January and it has been audited with international ISO certificate for its high security and reliability. At the same time with opening the centre Tieto brings a totally new service concept to Russian IT market. The concept is based on Tieto’s capacity services which use the latest technologies such as partitioning and virtualisation.

In practice, server and storage environments can be virtually provisioned and optimised for each business application, based on its availability, performance and business resumption requirements.
Furthermore, Tieto’s capacity services include solutions for processing as well as storage capacity. The needed capacity is measured and planned based on the business application’s actual needs. Capacity solution is scalable upwards and downwards and it gives the customer maximum agility and adaptability. On top of the capacity services Tieto offers services for application operations, connectivity and security, back-up as well as restoring.

Country manager of Tieto Russia Tuomo Summanen says: “Data centre providers in Russia typically offer space rental and connectivity for servers they do not own and manage themselves. Such centres are often referred to as server hotels. Our new data centre supports Tieto’s strategic aims to expand in Russia. We are now able to serve our Nordic as well as local customers in the North West Russia area with the latest technology, highest reliability and proven service concept. Company will hire new people this year in Russia. Tieto is planning to open a new data centre also in Moscow.”
