OKI Releases Social Responsibility Report 2008

Friday 26. December 2008 - Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6703) today announced it has released its Social Responsibility Report 2008. The report, posted on OKI's website includes OKI Group's fundamental philosophy on CSR (corporate social responsibility) and describes the CSR activities OKI engaged in during the fiscal year ending March 2008.

“The Social Responsibility Report discloses our CSR activities to a broad audience to promote understanding and gain trust from our stakeholders,” said Keiichi Fukumura, Senior Vice President at OKI, who oversees the CSR Division. “For this fourth Social Responsibility Report we made efforts to enable readers to easily understand our activities by separating it into activity domains and highlighting achievements. We look forward to receiving opinions about this report and will try to reflect them in our future CSR activities to establish a relationship of trust with our stakeholders.”

In October 2005, OKI established ‘The OKI Group Charter of Corporate Conduct’ for the betterment of all aspects of corporate value, and put together its first Social Responsibility Report which showed the Group’s target situation in line with the ten standards for conducts. From the second year, OKI structured the report according to the activity domains it was focusing on and explained the highlights of the year and the achievements made.

The Social Responsibility Report 2008 also follows this pattern and is structured to explain the activities during the fiscal year ending March 2008 and its seven activity domains. In addition, we selected four areas that are important to OKI and also garner high interest from our stakeholders, and included them in the Special Features section.

Management of Chemical Substances in Products
Enhance the management of chemical substances contained in OKI Group products utilizing OKI’s cutting-edge technology

Promotion of Information Security
Establishing and continuously enhancing information security systems living up to the corporate vision, “OKI, Network Solutions for a Global Society”

Management of Production Sites Giving Due Consideration to Customers, Local Communities and Employees
Improving the quality of management in various aspects such as product quality, environmental protection, and occupational health and safety

Status of activities in areas of focus

In this report, OKI explains its activities and achievements in the following seven areas of focus: full compliance with laws and regulations; maintenance of information security; improvement of customer satisfaction; good communication with shareholders and investors; respect for employees; considerations for the environment; and enhancement of social contribution. Based on the actual achievements, the report comments on areas of focus for the fiscal year ending March 2009. to enable readers to understand OKI’s overall direction in CSR through detailed examples.
