Programme for Tuesday, 10th March, 2009
The first session « Aerosols and the Environment: concrete actions » will be chaired by Charles Duclaux, Packaging & Environment Manager, DGO – Packaging L’ORÉAL. His opening statement on issues linked to « Carbon labelling » will be followed by:

– « Product life-cycle analysis » by Henri-Marc de Montalembert, Secretary General, CFA (French Aerosols Committee), France. This lecture will inform us about work carried out and underway and will summarise perspectives in an area that regularly features in the news;

– Virginie Fourneau, Development & Application Manager, AVANTEC S.A. Groupe Dehon, France, will explain the implementation of REACH in the aerosol industry. She will take stock of pre-registration, candidate substances, supply chain communication, issues linked to exposure scenarios and substitutes;

– Tim Martinez, President-CEO, Koenig & Vits, USA, will address the formulation of aluminium alloys, the use of recycled materials and matters pertaining to respect for the environment.

After the morning break, Emmanuel Perret, Managing Director, and Dirk Schwung, Aerosols Commercial Director, BOXAL, will discuss sustainable development and respect for the environment : closed circuit material recyclability, the energy efficiency of aluminium can manufacturing processes, in particular, and the use of environmentally neutral components.

– Henri Léonard Mylne, Business Development Manager, Power Container Corp. European Office, France, will take stock of bag-on-valve technologies and their impacts on the environment ;

– René Bommer, pharmAccel Consulting, Germany, a world renowned expert in Dispensing Systems, will share his vision of alternative technologies for the dispensing of liquid formulations.

After these lectures, an activity in the exhibition area will illustrate the use of aerosols in hair-dressing. Lunch will then be a privileged moment for meetings. The layout of the area is particularly suitable for visiting booths for exchanges and supplementary information from exhibitors and speakers.

The afternoon session will focus on « Design, eco-design and aerosol artwork techniques ». It will be chaired by Jay Gouliard, VP Packaging Design & Development, Unilever, The Netherlands, who will describe his vision of « Sustainability, a new space for innovation ». Statements will then take stock of artwork techniques:
– Leopold Werdich, TUBEX GMBH, Germany, will use concrete examples to share his experience of innovative packaging that focuses on drawing the consumer’s eye to products on the shelf, seduction, practicality, environmental compatibility;

– Emmanuel Perret, Managing Director, BOXAL group, will address new artwork techniques: high definition digital printing, fight against counterfeit, printed artwork and integral forming, etc.

– Franck Flécheux, R&D Director, Aerocan, France, will take stock of aerosol design, in particular combining appearance and respect for the environment. He will describe consumer expectations in terms of practicality, aesthetics and performance. This lecture will highlight process innovations and thus constitute an opportunity to address the technological state-of-the-art;

– Mike Brown, Leading Edge Labels and Packaging, UK, an expert in the manufacturing of labels, will describe their use in Europe and share his view and experience of the benefits of this technology in aerosol decoration ;

– Philippe Morel, Commercial Director, Sleever International, will discuss sleeves for aerosols and the ultimate customisation this represents for marketing teams and the supply chain.

We have then scheduled Arno Melchior, Global Packaging Director, RECKITT & BENCKISER, UK, to give a paper on innovations in terms of design, spray and sustainable development.

As we felt a lecture on « Innovation processes and protection of intellectual property (IP) » was important, we have called on Christian Derambure, a leading IP expert, who runs the Industrial Property consultancy firm DERAMBURE Conseil; as a European Patent, Trademark & Design Attorney, he leads the DERAMBURE MORELLE & BARDOU, DMB-IP-Network, and is also President of the CNCPI (Compagnie Nationale des Conseils en Propriété Industrielle). In this fascinating paper, he will address:
– Innovating, for a company, as a necessity in a competitive environment, but a necessity that entails a cost.

– Innovating also as an industrial and legal risk: risk of violating the intellectual property rights of competitors or of being copied by a competitor.
A cocktail party in the exhibition area will follow this rewarding programme of lectures. It will enable attendees to continue their discussion before a “Parisian” evening.

Wednesday morning, 11th March, 2009
This second day will focus on the art of spray and foam. Lectures in the morning will be chaired by Thibaud de Maillard, President of SOPPEC, France. In his opening address, he will share his vision of aerosols as « modern » packaging, technologies used to comply with safety and environmental concerns and new « technical applications » markets. His statement will be followed by:
– Emmanuel Perret, General Manager, and Dirk Schwung, Aerosols Commercial Director, BOXAL, who will address aluminium materials and alloys, the developments to be expected from foundries, aluminium can forming techniques (extrusion – DWI) and prospects for steel (DWI, pre-coated materials), not to mention new types of internal and external coatings;

– Adalberto GEIER, Technical Director, COSTER group, Italy, who will give a lecture on Coster’s Bags on Valve.
