Crown Wins Gold And Silver at The Can Of The Year Awards 2008
Friday 21. November 2008 - The European business units of Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:CCK) (Crown) were recently honored with three prizes at the 2008 Can of the Year Awards ceremony. The winning containers were recognized for distinctive design and convenience features in diverse sectors such as food, confectionery and pet food.
CROWN Food Europe received the Gold Award in the Ends, Caps and Closures category for its Easylift TM easy-open end technology. Launched by Nestlè Purina Petcare Europe on its 400g cat and dog food products, the end represents a new standard in convenience packaging. Improved finger access makes it quicker and easier for consumers to open canned foods without the need to use extra tooling.
CROWN Food Europe also received a Silver Award in the Food Three Piece category for the distinctive shaped can created for Nescafè Classic instant coffee. Marketed in Russia, the package also features a PeelSeamTM peelable end for easy opening and an outer plastic cap to reclose the pack and maintain product freshness. The shaped container replaced the traditional straight-walled package used in the Russian market.
In the Fancy Cans category, CROWN Speciality Packaging Europe was recognized with a Silver Award for the reusable container designed for Fortnum & Mason’s premium coffee range. Created to celebrate the company’s 300th anniversary, the tin perfectly combines aesthetical design and functional performance that compliments the British brand’s timeless quality and appeal on the retail shelf.
“We are extremely honored to have won in three different categories of The Can of the Year Awards,” says Chris Homfray, President of CROWN Europe. “These awards demonstrate Crown’s commitment to providing customers with innovative metal packaging solutions that help add value to their brands.”
The Can of the Year Awards ceremony was held during The Canmaker Summit conference in Warsaw, Poland in October. The annual awards program, organized by The Canmaker magazine since 1996, recognizes innovation in metal packaging design.
