Toyo Ink Expands Wide-Gamut Kaleido Ink Family to Include Zero-VOC Ultraviolet Formulation
Tuesday 28. October 2008 - Ordinarily, reproducing images with colors outside the cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK) range requires a six-color or seven-color printing process. Print buyers typically avoid the added expense and settle for the limited color range of four-color process printing.
By using Kaleido Ink, printers can give their customers a wider color gamut using the more cost-effective four-color process.
At Graph Expo 2008, Toyo Ink America will present three members of the innovative Kaleido Ink family, including the newest formulation.
Kaleido Ink’s unique lineup of four-color process inks offers a larger color gamut that is closer to RGB without using fluorescent pigment. Kaleido Ink makes it possible to achieve a color gamut that approximates six- or seven-color printing. Kaleido’s reproducible range matches almost exactly the images obtained from inkjet printers and high-end direct digital color proofing.
The new UV Kaleido Ink is cured using ultraviolet energy. The improved CMYK range produces rich and vibrant gradations from red to yellow, stronger red reproduction, vivid magenta and true pink reproduction, and dense blue reproduction.
Toyo Ink reengineered the existing CMYK colors to create special dedicated pigments, eliminating the narrow gamut problems related to four-color printing. By incorporating these pigments, Kaleido Ink expands the CMYK color gamut to nearly reach the color representation of the original Adobe RGB color range.
Kaleido Ink has its own International Color Consortium (ICC) color profiles designed to maximize the effects of the Kaleido color gamut. This allows prepress and press professionals to increase customer satisfaction. In addition, Kaleido Ink increases the gloss effects. The result is better color matching of the printed image to the image displayed on an RGB monitor.
Kaleido Ink improves the transparency of yellow, magenta and cyan. The enhanced transparency is achieved by using pigments that produce substantially greater brilliance than current inks. Improved transparency enables coverage of secondary and tertiary colors that previously were difficult to obtain using conventional process inks.
UV Kaleido Ink contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), so it is friendlier to the environment and the workplace. Other benefits include higher gloss levels. UV Kaleido Ink dries instantly for faster handling.
At Graph Expo, Toyo Ink also will display these other members of the Kaleido Ink family:
Aqualess Kaleido Ink: A recent addition to the Kaleido Ink family, the waterless system is easy to manage on press and suitable for a variety of paper finishes. Aqualess Kaleido Ink shortens makeready time and waste by helping the press achieve full color faster. Aqualess Kaleido Ink delivers higher gloss and faster setting times. There is less color variation on printed sheets.
Sheetfed Kaleido Ink: The original Kaleido formulation provides superior performance for most sheetfed applications with added environmental benefits. It is soy-based and low in VOCs.
Toyo Ink America will display the Kaleido Ink products in Booth #2411 at Graph Expo 2008, October 26-29 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.
