Boston Globe Media Launches New Sports Weekly: OT – Our Town. Our Teams

Friday 26. September 2008 - Boston Globe Media announced today the launch of a new weekly publication devoted to Boston sports fans and Boston sports teams: OT - Our Town. Our Teams.

OT will cover the major sports of baseball, basketball, football, hockey and more. It will also cover the hugely popular world of fantasy football.
As a weekly publication, OT will look ahead and look back, taking local sports fans far beyond the daily snapshot. With a bold design, a strong voice and a perspective both fun and provocative, OT will match the high energy of Boston’s renowned sports fans. The full-color publication will be printed in an over-sized tabloid format, full of dazzling photography.
Writers Tony Massarotti, Charlie Pierce and Chad Finn of The Boston Globe and Boston.com will be among the OT contributors each week. In addition to in-depth articles and the most telling local stats, OT will offer new features on the lighter side: The Dirt (where gossip and sports collide); reader feedback; the comical photo/quote of the week; and Tidbits (the stuff you don’t know about your favorite sports personalities).
“Boston is the best sports city in the U.S.,” said Joe Sullivan, the Globe’s assistant managing editor for sports. “Fans of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins have an insatiable appetite for information about their teams. OT will be just what they are looking for – quality stories, information and opinions about Boston’s pro teams.”
OT will be published every Thursday and will be available for sale at approximately 420 locations at a retail price of 50 cents. The distribution area covers 150 cities and towns in Greater Boston.

Jay Fogarty, the Globe’s vice president of strategic planning, said: “With OT we’re targeting both younger sports fans who prefer a bold and hard-hitting presentation of their sports, as well as sports fans who just can’t get enough perspective on all the local action.”
The launch of OT marks the fourth niche publication that Boston Globe Media has created in the past two years.
