Kodak Provides Evolution For Sheffield Printer

Sales Director, Graham Congreve

Thursday 28. August 2008 - Evolution Print achieves constant quality in its prepress and pressroom following implementation of KODAK CTP and Workflow Solutions

Evolution Print is now achieving consistent high quality throughout its prepress and pressroom following the implementation of a range of KODAK Prepress CTP and Workflow Solutions. Evolution Print is currently installing Kodak’s SPOTLESS Software and will be one of the first UK commercial printers with this facility when it is up and running shortly. The Sheffield printer is also using the recently launched KODAK ELECTRA XD Thermal Plate.

KODAK SPOTLESS Software delivers spot colour performance without the time and cost disadvantages typically associated with using special spot coloured inks. By simulating spot colours with process colours, SPOTLESS Software reduces print manufacturing costs, allows for more efficient press utilization and offers designers more creative options for producing rich, vibrant colours.

“The investment in KODAK Technology represents a big change for us, because we replaced completely our existing visible light CTP system and workflow in order to take advantage of the consistent high quality and productivity offered by Kodak’s thermal technology,” says sales director Graham Congreve. “Kodak was superb throughout and the changeover went very smoothly with no loss of productivity.

“The KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System has proved to be very user-friendly and extremely effective at allowing us to control efficiently every element of the job as it makes its way through the various stages of production. The PRINERGY System ensures that we obtain a high throughput from our KODAK Platesetter. With B2 and B1, five and six-colour KOMORI Presses running 24 hours a day, the demand from the pressroom is constant. We obtain an excellent sharp dot, with excellent print quality on the new KODAK ELECTRA XD Thermal Plate and the press minders report a significant reduction in makeready times and subsequent press wastage.”

If a plate is damaged during the night shift, remaking a new one is quickly carried out by a press operator and the level of accuracy within the KODAK CTP System helps ensure that the registration is a perfect fit for the existing set.

“We’ve also implemented the KODAK INSITE System and this has proved to be a real bonus in terms of the services we can provide customers, for example, sharing data, remote proofing and approval, job tracking, etc., as well as allowing integration with our MIS environment and enabling us to more easily serve clients in a much wider geographical area.

“Quality is paramount in everything we do, from the concept of a job to despatch,” says Graham Congreve. “The KODAK Equipment has lifted the bar to a new level and this is already helping us to expand our customer base. Clients include a growing number of leading design agencies, as well as regional and national government bodies, national retailers and local businesses. Most of them require regular quick turnaround of work, as well as top print quality, and the new KODAK Solutions have helped us to ensure we not only meet, but regularly exceed, our clients’ expectations.”
