Angela Leaney Joins Newsweek as Chief Marketing Officer

Thursday 19. June 2008 - Angela Leaney has joined Newsweek Magazine as Chief Marketing Officer, Newsweek Chief Executive Officer Tom Ascheim announced.

“Angela brings us her broad experience and incisive intelligence,” said Ascheim. “She will help make our voice clear and distinct in the changing media landscape that we face.”

Leaney comes to Newsweek after eight years at MTV Networks, where she was a Senior Vice President Creative Director, for Nick Jr., NOGGIN and ParentsConnect. She was responsible for brand strategy, all branding and promotional creative, all promotional media strategy and public affairs. In her tenure there, she positioned and branded The N, the teen cable and online network and developed a new position and identity for ParentsConnect, the first parenting brand at Viacom.

From 1990-1996, Leaney worked at AMV.BBDO advertising agency in London, as an account executive. In 1996, she joined Ogilvy & Mather in London as an account planner and then in 1999, she moved to the agency’s office in Los Angeles as a partner and head of Account Planning and Research. She then moved to New York to work with NOGGIN and was soon named Vice President of Consumer Marketing. In 2000, she began to oversee the branding and promotional creative on NOGGIN and The N.
