Design unlimited: new Algro Design campaign unveiled at Drupa
Tuesday 10. June 2008 - 'Dare to be different!' is the message for brand owners, designers and printers from Sappi's Algro Design, Algro Design Card and Algro Design Duo smooth, bright white coated Solid Bleached Boards (SBB). Sappi is highlighting the message with the launch at Drupa of a colourful, design-led, high impact product selector demonstrating the brand's appeal for high quality packaging and graphics applications.
Algro Design, the one-side double-coated board launched by Sappi three years ago, has attracted an impressive number of high profile customers from the luxury products, fashion, cosmetics, perfume, health- & personal care, confectionery, food, pharmaceuticals and graphics sectors. Recent line extensions, Algro Design Card, a double front coated board with a single reverse coating, and Algro Design Duo, a symmetrical board double coated on both sides, have expanded the brand’s applications. All three products are available upon request in accordance with COC FSC and PEFC accreditation.
Product Manager Lars Scheidweiler stresses the unlimited potential for the brand: “Algro Design, Algro Design Card and Algro Design Duo offer something very different in the market and provide a unique substrate for a broad portfolio of end products. The boards’ premium appearance and its high whiteness, leading to sharper pictures, more contrast and a feeling of greater dimensionality, offer maximum consumer impact, the perception of extra product value and ultimate brand power. A perfect colour match with Sappi graphic papers, such as HannoArt Silk, allows for total consistency in brand communications with exactly the same look and feel. In fact, Algro Design applications are only limited by a designer’s imagination.”
Sappi developed the Algro Design product campaign specifically to stimulate design creativity. It offers a side-by-side graphic presentation of the printed front and reverse sides of each product and grade. Striking, colourful images including a bright red shimmering lipstick, chocolates, a crocodile handbag and a beautifully bound book, represent only some of the brand’s major markets. Sappi chose the images to highlight the exceptional print and converting qualities on the different surfaces and to demonstrate the many effects possible with high colour inks, matt, gloss and special spot varnishes, embossing, hot foil, foil lamination and special die-cutting. The printed images accentuate the unparalleled whiteness of the boards giving a very fresh, youthful and friendly look and feel.
“In addition to excellent colour reproduction, its high UV light fastness, resulting in maximum shade consistency over time, is also a major selling point for the brand,” Scheidweiler says. “Specific colour targets are more achievable with such a bright white starting point. This is equally useful for graphics and packaging applications, for instance whenever the highest demands on exact colour reproduction are to be met, such as for hair colorants or with skin tones in particular. Basically, the same is valid for and adds value to every brand and product that seeks to stand out and aims at extra consumer value and impact at point of sale. Finally from the converters’ perspective, the products are not only about looks, they perform well on press and have excellent handling and finishing characteristics.”
Algro Design is available in standard basis weights of 160 – 350g/m2, Algro Design Card in 235 – 345g/m2 and Algro Design Duo in 250 – 380g/m2. For higher stability boards, laminates of Algro Design are marketed under the brand name Algro Duo, which are available at basis weights ranging from 450-710g/m².
