Domino Demonstrates New And Unique Secondary Coding Solutions At Interpack 2008

C6000AS plus for adjacent side coding

Monday 28. April 2008 - C-Series Developments Meet and Exceed Emerging and Long Term Market Challenges

Domino Printing Sciences plc, a world-leader in total coding, marking, printing, traceability and RFID solutions will use interpack 2008 to showcase new and unique product additions to its C-Series portfolio of secondary coding technologies. The innovative solutions firmly underscore Domino’s leading position as a provider of secondary coding products that meet long term market needs and deliver increased efficiency for manufacturing customers.

Domino’s line-up of C-Series solutions at interpack comprises:

C6000AS plus – Adjacent Side Coding System
Foremost in the showcase of Domino’s C-Series products on display in Düsseldorf, is the new C6000AS plus, a revolutionary product that responds to long term market demands for more efficient use of both equipment and production floor space. According to Mike Hurst, Product Director for Outer Case Coding at Domino Printing Sciences, the capability to print simultaneously on two faces of a case is something that the food industry in particular has long been looking for. “Business models in high volume retailing and wholesaling of food mean that several different sets of coded information may be required for the various transactions in the supply chain,” he explains. “Until now, these demands could only be met by complex installations involving multiple coding stations and turntables that require a large amount of floorspace for end-of-line operations. The C6000AS plus is as easy to retrofit on existing lines as it is to install on new lines, meaning that all producers can benefit from this unique, patent-applied-for technology.”
With two coding operations synchronised via a single print head, C6000AS plus users can also benefit from easier set-up, faster production start-up and more efficient management of consumables.

C6000V plus – ‘Print Down’ Outer Case Coding
Domino will also exhibit its new C6000V plus, a high speed printer which significantly extends the application possibilities for C-Series users. The C6000V plus prints down from above the production line rather than from the side, opening up a number of new industrial applications, including printing directly to diverse substrates including wood and plasterboard.

The vertical configuration of the C6000V plus also makes it ideal for high-speed case packing requirements such as those increasingly encountered in the beverage bottling industry, opening up opportunities for installation within case erecting equipment prior to cases being filled. It is, therefore, an ideal counterpart to the C6000AS plus, allowing manufacturers the flexibility to choose between printing on flat case blanks or further down the production line on finished cases.

C-Series plus – Enhanced Speed and Print Performance
The C6000V plus is among the first of Domino’s enhanced C-Series plus range of online coding solutions for outer case coding (OCC), which offers double the print performance and double the speed of any competing product. Making its debut at interpack, the range addresses market demands for increased efficiency on high speed lines – such as those in the food and beverage industry – while achieving a print resolution of 180 dpi at up to 60m per/min. Each new model also boasts a clearer and more intuitive user interface, high-speed communications and Ethernet connectivity for easier integration by both end users and OEM’s and the lowest OCC power consumption on the market.

Printing high quality alphanumeric codes and graphics directly onto outer cases, C-Series plus coders contribute to increased overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), flexibility and profitability whilst meeting the compliance requirements of the whole supply chain.

C6000CC plus – Coated Case Coding
The trend towards shelf- or retail-ready packaging for greater efficiency in high volume retail has stimulated demand for printing on substrates with more shelf appeal than standard, uncoated cartonboard. interpack will provide an insight to Domino’s solution for this challenge, as it demonstrates the capability of its forthcoming C6000CC plus for coated substrates.

“As secondary packaging increasingly moves from the warehouse onto the shelf, brand owners and retailers are looking to use more appealing non-porous and semi-porous boards for high volume products such as food and beverages, wines and spirits,” says Mike Hurst. “By delivering direct coding using high resolution inkjet, our C6000CC plus will ensure that the visual appeal and quality of retail-ready packaging substrates, is maintained at the secondary coding stage.”

The C6000CC plus, represents a viable solution for high volume, high speed applications and makes a tangible contribution to OEE and waste reduction. The solvent-based C6000CC plus is based on exclusive Domino technology that incorporates self-cleaning and capping technology for the inkjet nozzles so that the highest print quality is maintained at all times.

“As an industry first, the C6000CC plus represents a unique offering, and like all products in Domino’s C-Series stable, reflects our understanding of the challenges faced by our customers, as well as our pre-emptive stance in meeting and exceeding emerging market needs,” concludes Mike Hurst.
