WoodWing allows “Online first” at Ringier
Thursday 03. April 2008 - Ringier Verlag produces CASH daily with WoodWing Smart Connection Enterprise
Zofingen (Switzerland) based Ringier AG produces the daily business newspaper CASH daily using the editorial system Smart Connection Enterprise of WoodWing. The “Online first” philosophy and the newsroom principle supported by Smart Connection Enterprise were important aspects for the decision. After the successful switch at CASH daily the implementation of the system at other publications of Ringier is on its way – not only in Switzerland, but also in Hungary, Serbia, and Romania.
The implementation of the Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy based editorial system went smoothly. That covers not only the printed issue, but also all other channels like the website www.cash.ch and the live paper version of the leading business publication in Switzerland. Despite the fact, that the switch was part of a complete revamp of the production environment including the change of the layout application, Christoph Spürgin, project director at Ringier, stated “no noteworthy issues” during the first production already.
Two important aspects are mission critical for the new editorial system at CASH daily – the “Online first” philosophy should be supported and the new solution should be the core system of the integrated newsroom. WoodWing Smart Connection Enterprise fulfilled both requirements consequently. At the push of a button an article can now appear on the website and as a live paper version before being printed – while the journalist can continue to edit the story.
Editor in Chief Rüdi Steiner: “We do want to publish even more stories on cash.ch, which is a very easy and efficient task with the new system. WoodWing allows me to incite my colleagues to push hot news to the website immediately.” By its sophisticated export options WoodWing Smart Connection Enterprise facilitate an integrated newsroom, Steiner continues.
Even the advertisement department benefits from the new system. As the page planning solution “Journaldesigner” can be integrated seamlessly with the WoodWing system the ads are placed automatically in the InDesign layout.
Erik Shut, President of WoodWing based in Zaandam in The Netherlands, comments on the positive decision of Ringier: “These times are quite challenging for publishers worldwide. We want to be a reliable and innovative partner for our customers in the publishing industry. The decision of Ringier is a proof of our strategy concerning the future direction of Smart Connection Enterprise.”
The implementation was executed by the Swiss system integrator A&F. Urs Felber, Founder and General Manager of A&F is happy about the successful job: “We did quite a number of implementations of the WoodWing system at well-known publishing houses. Although we are thrilled every time anew by the innovative and sustainable solutions possible with WoodWing Smart Connection Enterprise.”
