Gerresheimer elucidates the production of prefillable syringe systems
Thursday 03. April 2008 - Glass syringes in the ready-to-fill category were the focus of an interesting specialist presentation through which Gerresheimer contributed to the Pharma Congress Production & Technology 2008 on April 2 - 3, 2008 in Mannheim.
At the fourth Ready-to-fill Syringe Conference in this prestigious series of events, Gerresheimer Bünde elucidated the production of RTF systems right through to final sterilisation. A small exhibition during the course of the congress rounded off the information package (Booth 34).
Dr. Stefan Kettelhoit spoke. This highly qualified pharmacist was himself previously involved in pharmaceutics manufacturing and also has specialist experience as an auditor. Today he works with Gerresheimer Bünde as an expert in quality assurance and pre-sales support for the competence centre for injection systems. His scientifically and technically well-informed talk took the conference participants in Mannheim through all the steps in syringe production. Kettelhoit not only described the individual production processes and advanced techniques used for quality assurance but also provided an overview of the various syringe types and finishing possibilities. In particular he focussed on individual up-to-the-minute aspects – especially with regard to highly sensitive biotech drugs: revealing sideline comments here informed the participants about the physicochemical relationships and special processes such as baked-on siliconisation.
With highly competent speakers from the pharmaceutical industry, the responsible supervision authorities and the fields of plant engineering and syringe production, the conference as a whole provided a comprehensive overview of the requirements and manufacturing norms according to the latest status of technology. The overall standard is set by the ready-to-fill category says Burkhard Lingenberg, Marketing and Communications Director for the
Gerresheimer Group: “It stands for highly-advanced technologies, so its above-average growth rate is by no means coincidental.” The safety and convenience offered by ready-to-fill syringes today in drug-delivery practice was clearly demonstrated by the accompanying exhibition, in which Gerresheimer displayed its systems together with intelligent accessories.
