Kodak Donates Unified Workflow and Proofing Solutions for Hands-On Learning at Ryerson University

Tuesday 01. April 2008 - New KODAK Workflow and Proofing Solutions provide hands-on training for the next generation of graphic communications providers at Ryerson University. Donations to this leading Canadian career-focused university include the KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System, KODAK VERIS Digital Proofer and KODAK MATCHPRINT Inkjet Proofing Solution.

“We are delighted to accept this very generous donation from Kodak,” said Dr. Daniel Doz, Dean of the Faculty of Communication & Design, Ryerson University. “Ryerson has a long history with Kodak, including the Kodak’s Lecture Series hosted by our School of Image Arts, the Kodak’s Library located in the University’s library and archives. Now we have a program specific software system that gives our graphic communications students the leading edge skills they require to meet this growing industry’s needs. Thanks to Kodak’s generosity, Ryerson’s reputation as a leader in media arts will continue to flourish.”

At the heart of KODAK Unified Workflow Solution is KODAK PRINERGY Workflow Systems. The PRINERGY Workflow System is designed to streamline production from original file to final printed job, improving productivity, resource allocation, and, ultimately, a user’s bottom line. PRINERGY Systems are modular, open and scaleable to meet specific market needs, from small to large commercial printers, publications, newspapers or packaging printing thru optimized production, intelligent automation and advanced KODAK STACCATO Screening and KODAK SPOTLESS Printing Solution.

At Ryerson, students will now be able to work with KODAK MATCHPRINT Inkjet Proofing Solution enabling the next level of workflow connectivity and color precision to drop on demand (DOD) inkjet proofing. Using innovative screening and calibration technologies, and a Certified Process for Color Confirmation. Using KODAK Proofing Software, customers will benefit from excellent color accuracy, enhanced image smoothness, quick calibration tools and direct connectivity to KODAK Workflow Solutions.

“Kodak is pleased to help students further their education and honored to help bring talented graphic communications individuals into the industry,” said David Wigfield, Managing Director, United States and Canada, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group.

“Providing our students with Kodak’s advanced proofing and workflow technologies help further prepare them for job opportunities in the speed and quality driven printing industry,” said Abhay Sharma, Ph.D. Chair, Graphic Communications Manager, Ryerson University. “Kodak’s support will allow us to provide students with a greater understanding of the importance of accurate color and the benefits of implementing a seamless workflow.”

Students can also gain experience with the KODAK VERIS Digital Proofer. Based on Kodak developed KODAK MULTI-DROP ARRAY Inkjet Imaging Technology, this proofer precisely steers ink droplets for true 1500 x 1500 dpi addressability at production speeds. The resulting drop placement accuracy, superior four dimensional (“4D”) color calibration and consistent, quality controlled consumables are what allow the VERIS Proofer to deliver excellent color consistency proof to proof and machine to machine. Moreover, the VERIS Proofer is ICC compliant and connects to most popular prepress and design applications.
