Sun Chemical Provides “Green Leader” Panelist at Sustainability Workshop

Wednesday 26. March 2008 - Jim Bishop, a product manager of sheetfed technology at Sun Chemical, will be a "green leader" panelist at a sustainability-focused workshop for approximately 80 printers from Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico.

Presented by the Printing & Imaging Association Mountain States (PIAMS) on March 26, the workshop called “Green Printers for Greenprint,” will leave attendees with a green action plan and teach them strategies that will help them be more environmentally-friendly.

Bishop will talk about how sustainable ink solutions and new low VOC fountain solutions and press washes can lower volatile organic compounds (VOCs), reduce waste and improve productivity.

“Printers are constantly looking for ways to be more sustainable,” Bishop said. “I want printers to walk away from this conference knowing that there is ink and press chemistry solutions that can help them achieve their green objectives.”

Sun Chemical has been on the forefront of introducing green solutions for its customers for a number of years. Liberty sheetfed inks, for example, produce outstanding print quality while reducing waste and dramatically shortening a printer’s production time thanks to proprietary chemistry that offers superb press stability and ultra-fast drying.

Sun Chemical also recently launched the new Earth series sheetfed inks, a low VOC process set of inks with high levels of renewable raw materials such as linseed, soybean and other types of vegetable oils.
Earth series inks produce only 2 percent VOCs (volatile organic compounds – EPA Method 24), which makes this ink technology 80 percent lower in average VOCs than other standard sheetfed process inks now available.

The workshop is sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency, the 2008 Democratic National Convention Committee, the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado, Colorado Environmental Leadership Program, and Partners for a Clean Environment.

“Just being named as a panelist to this workshop is a tremendous honor,” Bishop said. “Sun Chemical has long been known for innovation, technical expertise and for the quality and performance of our products. Providing sustainable solutions is at the heart of our daily work everyday. Being recognized as a ‘green leader’ panelist by sponsors of this event, like the Environmental Protection Agency, shows that Sun Chemical has been viewed as a leader in manufacturing green printing solutions for our customers.”

“Green Printers for Greenprint” will be held on Wednesday, March 26 at 8 a.m. at the REI Denver Flagship Auditorium in Denver.
