Tools to run a sustainable and profitable label business

Wednesday 12. March 2008 - Label Summit Latin America, which takes place in Mexico City on 15-16 April, has revealed the details of the conference program.

The two-day event – a high-level conference and tabletop exhibition, has attracted leading label and printing experts from Mexico and the rest of the world to present their views to the Latin American industry professionals. Over 700 visitors are expected to attend the event, making it the leading educational forum in this sector.

The conference program this year has a very strong business focus, to satisfy requests from Latin American printers and converters looking at new opportunities in the market. For this reason, the conference sessions will include practical advice on managing a successful label business, developing brand positioning and differentiating from competitors. There will be case studies and real life examples of what businesses should do in order to remain viable, grow and increase profitability.

Other areas of the conference will have presentations and panel discussions on such subjects as: digital printing technologies, innovations in UF flexo, developments in film, end users requirements, security and brand protection issues and others.

One of the sessions on the subject of current technological developments will be a panel discussion with the technology experts Juan Pablo Bernal Cuevas of DuPont Imaging Technologies, Jeff Feltz of Mark Andy, Alexander James of Harper Corporation and David Jones of Alphasonics. The session titled ‘Omptimizing efficiency and performance in UV flexo sector’ will focus on the importance of pre-press, press performance and control indicators, use of UV inks and curing in narrow web flexo.

To represent the end-user’s view there will be a presentation from Wal-Mart and Unilever senior management. Marty Vavra, Label Product Manager of Wal-Mart, and Claudia Baltazar, Senior Engineer Packaging Technology of Unilever, will express their views on what end-users are looking for from their label suppliers. The panel will look at various areas of the label function and its relevance to the product performance and will try to answer a number of questions: what are the buyer’s key needs and requirements from the label converter, how do end-users rate quality, performance, price and environmental compliance of a label supplier, what kind of after sales support should a label converter do? As with all other conference sessions, delegates will be invited to ask questions to the panel to make the session interactive and valuable for both parties.

One more key development at this year’s summit is the inclusion of several discussions on environmental issues. Representatives from Wal-Mart and Multilabel will deliberate on the future of label businesses in the rapidly changing market, where environmental compliances are demanded not only by buyers and end-users but by pressure groups, lobbying parties, NGOs, etc.

The conference at Label Summit Latin America will be chaired by Andy Thomas, Group Managing Editor of Labels & Labeling magazine and James Quirk, Deputy Editor.

Roger Pellow, Labelexpo Managing Director, said: “The Latin American and Mexican label market has shown good growth for the past few years, and the region is still benefiting greatly from foreign investment and local manufacturing. “Label Summit Latin America is an important part of the Labelexpo Global Series, as it offers the opportunity to the local label industry’s professionals to stay abreast with the developments in the national and international label markets and also network and do business with more than 70 label industry suppliers. Our conference program this year looks very comprehensive and I look forward to taking part in constructive discussions on diverse subjects that interest and concern the industry in the Latin American market”.
