The Publicaciones del Sur group acquires MILENIUM for its sixty-plus newspapers

The growth in recent years of the Publicaciones del Sur newspaper group, which publishes more than sixty titles in Andalusia, has made it necessary to implement an important modernisation plan, which now includes Protecs MILENIUM Cross Media solutions. “We were looking for a global editorial solution to manage all of the information created by the different newsrooms and which would also allow control of the whole production,” says Gonzalo Castro, technical director of Publicaciones del Sur, when explaining the reasons for this decision.
This group is present in most of the towns and cities in Andalusia with more than 20,000 inhabitants throughout the eight provinces of this region. It has daily, weekly and fortnightly publications, all of which focus above all on providing the population with information that is both very local and of particular relevance to it.
In addition, Publicaciones del Sur, also known as Grupo Información, has made a significant move into the free newspaper segment, while retaining its local nature. Thus, from Monday to Friday the free daily Viva is distributed in the main Andalusian cities, including various provincial capitals.
The group, based in Jerez, has chosen Protec to be its technological partner. In particular, Protecs MILENIUM Cross Media solutions are seen as the tool needed to make possible this step up in quality, “due to their expansion in other media and their proven track record,” as Gonzalo Castro puts it.
