The Swiss daily Bieler Tagblatt modernises using Protecs applications
Thursday 07. February 2008 - Through MILENIUM Cross Media solutions, the publisher seeks to adapt to the rapid technological change taking place in the media industry
Bieler Tagblatt, the newspaper for the German-speaking population in Swiss area of Biel and Saarland founded in 1850, owned by the publisher W. Gassman AG, has decided to modernise its infrastructures and systems via Protecs MILENIUM Cross Media solutions. The newspapers decision to change was the result of observing the need to adapt to the rapid technology change taking place in the media industry. Implementing these solutions will help it to maintain its leading position.
Bieler Tagblatt has been conscious of the urgent need to adapt. Thus, in 2007 it carried out an initiative clearly aimed at encouraging citizen journalism and the creation of a readers community, through a photographic competition. Each day, the selected photos are published in both the print and online editions and the idea was so successful that Bieler Tagblatt was a finalist in Ifras XMA Awards.
To continue in this direction, the publisher decided to put its faith in Protecs MILENIUM CROSS MEDIA solutions to totally integrate advertising, production and editorial contents. Through these applications, the newspaper will join these departments into a single workflow, with the resulting savings in cost and, above all, time. From the beginning of each day, the publication will be generated with the advertising modules already adjusted to its allocated space, together with the news and photographs.
With this decision, Bieler Tagblatt enters a new phase in which it hopes to increases the number of readers through the services acquired, and make them more loyal. According to the WEMF 2006 data, the newspaper has an average readership of 67,000, which makes it a leading player in the provision of news in its local area.
