Monday 14. January 2008 - The Norwegian Ministry of Justice and Police has selected TietoEnator and its partners FAST and EMC, to deliver an information management and search platform to improve information management, retrieval and collaboration within the ministry's vast records, as well as solutions to enhance its surveillance capabilities.
TietoEnator is responsible for helping the customer implement the EMC Documentum solution, as well as supporting the FAST deliverables. The Norwegian Ministry of Justice and TietoEnator are now planning the deployments in partnership, and the common understanding is to deliver the first results as soon as 2008.
The Ministry of Justice and Police’s priority areas are to reduce crime, maintain security and the rule of law; ensure openness and democracy, execute the tasks of the Criminal Justice System and serve the public. The Justice sector in Norway employs about 15,000 people, with 27 police districts, five public prosecutors and one director of public prosecution. It includes departments like Financial Crime, Criminal Police, Data crime, Surveillance & Intelligence and Prison Authorities.
The information management platform will include solutions for financial crime detection, web- and Intranet portals, border control systems, criminal registry, photo/video archive and Internet crime surveillance. With several hundred million documents and records spread over more than 500 servers, as well as an annual multimedia production of 1.5-2 terabytes of audio, 4-5 terabytes of video and 150-200 gigabytes of photos, the scalability and analysis capabilities of the search solution played a vital role.
Lars H. Bøhler, CEO of the Norwegian Police Data- and Materials Service said: “We were looking at high maintenance costs and multiple, disparate information silos across the ministry and wanted to standardize to one platform. With the new solution, we will be able to improve work processes across several functional areas, like improving the overall information management processes and increasing the efficiency in the investigation processes, as well as using search to augment special surveillance applications.”
Thomas Heiskel, Manager, TietoEnator Digital Innovations comments: “The platform will provide the ministry with an intelligent and efficient information-retrieval, sharing and collaboration system, which will greatly change the working day for a lot of justice and police officials. With more than 130 consultants trained in implementing advanced information management systems, the ministry can be ensured we will deliver the best qualified and secure solution available.”
