The inserting drum is designed for offline production. Thus an additional RollStream element is connected to the main product infeed.
The Spectator in Bangor, south east of Belfast, is one of the successful family owned newspaper houses in Northern Ireland. Founded in 1903, the company is today managed by the third generation.
At IfraExpo 2007 in Vienna, the brothers and todays owner of the company Ian and David Alexander placed an order for a Ferag RollSert inserting drum, equipped with RollStream. The inserting drum is designed for offline production. Thus an additional RollStream element is connected to the main product infeed.
With the placement of this RollSert order continues a success story, which started at Drupa 2004 with the first ever sale of a RollSert drum to Furness (Evening Leader) in Barrow (England). In the meantime, nine newspaper companies in the UK and Northern Ireland with circulations down to 2000 copies have decided in favour of this small and high performance inserting system.
The choice of RollSert technology with RollStream is mainly based on the advantages price/performance ratio and the unique opportunities in developing the Ferag system with regard to the business model XtraWin. By integrating additional components like StreamStitch (stitching) and the trimming drum SNT-U the newspaper companies open doors to very new ways to utilise state of the art technologies for commercial products.
